BOWIE CO., TX (KSLA) -

Late Monday afternoon, specialists with the Bossier City Bomb Squad determined a suspicious-looking device found in Bowie County near Red Lick, TX was not a bomb.

The device, a piece of PVC pipe with caps at either end and a string attached to it, was empty. Right now authorities do not know if someone was planning to turn the pipe into some kind of bomb or if was simply built as a hoax.

The Bowie County Sheriff's Office said a deputy was on patrol just off the Bowie Parkway because of recent copper thefts. He found the device sitting inside a railroad boxcar.

The Bossier City Bomb Squad was asked to investigate because the sheriff's office said they weren't taking any chances.
