Shreveport police have arrested a suspect in a shooting that left one man dead in the Queensborough neighborhood.

Police say an apparent argument sparked the shooting shortly after 7:15 p.m. Friday in the 3300 block of Milton Street. When officers arrived, they found that a man had been shot moments earlier inside the residence.

The victim, identified as 51-year-old Larry Patterson of Shreveport, was pronounced dead a short time later. Police were told that Patterson and the alleged gunman, who also shared the residence, were involved in a verbal argument during which the suspect allegedly produced a handgun and shot Patterson multiple times.

The suspect was identified as 35-year-old Joseph Butler, who fled the scene before police arrived.

Hours after the shooting, Butler surrendered to authorities without incident at Shreveport Police headquarters. He was booked into the Shreveport City Jail, where is was charged with one count of second-degree murder.
