American Commercial College closes abruptly

American Commercial College in Shreveport has closed its doors.

A release says the school closed on Monday. But there was nothing written about why it shut down so abruptly.

School administrators say they are working on other arrangements for students. Their offices will remain open to offer assistance until the end of January.

Some students tell KSLA News 12 that they are not only worried about what they will do next, but also money they say the school owes them.

"I was told that the money would be applied to my student loans and it wasn't. I called Sallie Mae and the department of financial aid and they told me no money was applied," says former student Christopher Ware. Ware says the school owes him around $1,400.

Current student Joycelyn Atkins says the school also owes her $750.

"They say they will give me a call back, or they give me a number out in Texas. All in all they are giving me the run around," says Atkins.  Atkins says she has not been able reach school administrators about her concerns.

KSLA News 12 asked school officials about the money owed to students, but did not receive a comment.

According to the Louisiana Board of Regents, the school is not violating any policies by closing on such short notice.

American Commercial College offered degree programs in accounting, bookkeeping, computer repair and various office work in the medical field.
