Golden Apple Award winner: Minette Gilbert

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - When you walk in Minette Gilbert's classroom at Eden Gardens Magnet School you can tell she loves both Christmas and her kids.

"Their enthusiasm. They bounce into the door. They bounce out of the door, and it is just awesome to be a part of. The families that we meet here are incredible," said Gilbert.

The decorations are a winter wonderland for her little Kindergartners, and each of them have their own stocking hanging on the wall. It's something her colleagues say is just an extension of Gilbert's personality.

"She is a giver. She gives of her love. She gives of her time, her creativity, and she just impacts everybody. It's like a domino effect here," said Instructional Coordinator, Renee Ellis.

The whole school cheered as she accepted her $500 check for winning the Golden Apple Award, and they said it's well deserved for someone who has given so much to each and every one of her students.

Gilbert won the weekly Golden Apple Award for teaching excellence. The award comes with a $500 prize from the sponsor, The Kirby Kelly Law Firm.
