CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Montgomery County grand jury has indicted a man who worked for the state as a probation officer supervisor on charges of sexually exploiting a child.

In August 2012, police received a referral from the Department of Children's Services regarding Dexter Lavon Mason, 66, of Clarksville. This prompted police to search his residence and seize three computers.

United States Secret Service examiners said they found numerous images on Mason's laptop computer of young children engaged in sexual activity or simulated sexual activity.

As a probation officer supervisor, Mason's job was to protect people from those exact type of crimes.

Mason managed two officers in a Clarksville office whose job is to find sex offenders, keep track of them and go after them if they violate the rules.

Mason had worked for the state since 1990 - first, as a probation officer and then as a supervisor. He retired shortly after this investigation began.

The grand jury returned an indictment with 21 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, four counts of aggravated sexual battery and one count of tampering with evidence against Mason.

His wife, Mary Mason, 66, was indicted on one count of tampering with evidence.

Bond was set at $30,000 for Dexter Mason and $10,000 for Mary Mason.
