Security plan in place for Bossier Schools

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

There is a uniformed policy in place at all 34 campuses in Bossier Parish, and it ranges from locked doors, to making sure nobody walks into a school without an escort.

"And of course the 13 SRO's, our school resource officers are in place at high schools and middle schools, are obviously on alert," said head of security for Bossier schools, Danny Dison.

During our visit Friday we were escorted around campus at Legacy by Dison.

He tells us if there were an incident like the shooting in Connecticut the school would be locked down, and each individual teacher would be responsible for securing his or her students.

"We don't ask them to become a police officer but we do ask them to ensure the safety of their 25 students. That's their responsibility. The first thing they do is make sure the doors are locked and that deploy a placard card to indicate all is well behind that door," said Dison.

It's likely that Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut also has a security plan in place, and there are reports that indicate it had just been revised, and a letter was sent to parents informing them of the new policies.

Dison says he has told parents many times that no campus is 100% safe.
