MARSHALL, TX (KSLA) -

Marshall police have arrested a suspect who allegedly stole some firearms this week.

On Tuesday morning, police received a report of a vehicle burglary on Pinewood Drive in which a rifle was stolen. A 911 call reported a black male suspect running in the same area carrying a rifle. Officers searched the area but did not find the suspect.

About three hours later, officers were dispatched to Roseword Circle in reference to a black male armed with several rifles. When officers arrived, the suspect ran from the location and was caught after a brief chase.

The suspect was identified as 19-year-old Corey Lee Johnson of Marshall. Upon further investigation, Johnson was booked into the Harrison County Jail on charges of six counts of burglary of a vehicle, burglary of a building, two counts of theft of a firearm, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading arrest. The crimes were committed between Monday evening and Tuesday morning, except for the charge of burglary of a building, which was reported on Oct. 26.

Police say that there is always an increase in crime at this time of the year. They advise residents to ensure that all vehicles are kept locked before entering their residence or a place of business and to keep all valuables out of sight.
