Montgomery Educational Consulting, a college consulting firm with offices in Colorado and New Jersey, recommends students who are completing college applications take the time to clean-up their online profile.
Denver, CO (PRWEB) December 07, 2012
Katherine Price, a Senior Associate with Montgomery Educational Consulting, recently wrote the article, 5 Ways to Clean Up Your On-line Profile, which advises students who are applying to college to take the time to look at their on-line profile, before admissions officers do.
“Admissions officers are not going to have the time to look up every applicant on-line,” stated Ms. Price. “But, if they find something intriguing in your file, the internet is probably going to be the first place they go to find out more information.”
In her tips, Ms. Price describes how students need to learn more about what information about them is on the internet. Students should Google their name, including nicknames and first, middle and last name. Student should also untag themselves from unflattering or inappropriate pictures and review all comments they have posted on Facebook or blogs. It is not just about being unavailable on-line. “Everyone knows about privacy settings and creating false identities, but students should really take the time to create a positive on-line presence,” stated Ms. Price.
Students should also let their friend know that they are trying to maintain a positive on-line image. “Ask your friends to let you know if they tag you in anything,” suggests Ms. Price.
The college admissions process is stressful enough. Students do not need one more thing to worry about when it comes to their chances of being admitted to their favorite college. By taking the time to review their on-line profile, students can ensure that this unofficial portion of their application will be a positive reflection of who they are and how they can add to a college community.
From offices in Colorado and New Jersey, Montgomery Educational Consulting offers comprehensive, personalized educational counseling services to students locally, around the country, and around the world. These college admissions experts guide students every step of the way as they navigate the university search and application process. Then, they help students get admitted to the college that is right for them.
