Caddo school bus driver cited for battery on student

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A Caddo Parish school bus driver has been arrested for simple battery on a student riding her bus.

KSLA News 12 has obtained surveillance video of the incident from Bus 495.

The mother of a 9-year-old boy says it appears that Gay Miller, 37, pushed her son after he got into an altercation with another student on the bus.

Police say they got a call about the incident about 5:20 p.m. on November 15, when they sent officers to a home in the 6400 block of Lexington Avenue to investigate a reported battery.

They took statements from a woman and her son, both of whom alleged that the bus driver "physically accosted the child." Police say they saw no injuries on the boy.

KSLA was told the boy was checked out at a local emergency room following the alleged incident.

Detectives with the SPD's Youth Bureau began an investigation and determined there was probable cause to arrest Miller.

Miller voluntarily came to the police department on Tuesday and was issued a misdemeanor summons charging her with one count of simple battery.

KSLA News 12's Domonique Benn is working to get more details.
