BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The family of a University High football player is looking for answers as their son recovers from a head injury.

Family members tell 9News their 16-year-old son is in the hospital, and is now responsive and moving around. He was hospitalized and in and out of consciousness after a night out at the BREC park near Olympia Field this weekend.

D'Vante Dotson's parents got calls from his friends saying he was "unresponsive" in the park. Once paramedics got there, they found the 16-year-old unconscious and bleeding and they took him to the hospital.

Family members say they are getting different stories from the 16-year-old's friends. Police say they are investigating, but at this time, police say they believe it appears to be nothing more than an accident.

Meanwhile, D'Vante's family says they are getting different stories from their son's friends and simply want to know what happened.

"I'm tired of the rumors. Everybody has something to say. If you want to say something, say the truth because right about now he can't talk for himself," said Armanda Dotson, D'Vante's aunt. "So whoever really does know and have heart...because one day it could be them, it could be their family member. "

In a statement from the school, a U High official says they are aware of an off campus incident involving one of their students and that their thoughts and concerns are with the students and his parents.
