Shreveport Council seeks citizen input on district proposal

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

The Shreveport City Council will vote Tuesday on a proposal to redraw some of its seven districts, and it wants a large showing of citizens to show up and give their input.

The hearing is set to start at 3 p.m. in Government Chambers at Government Plaza, 505 Travis St.

"We want to do everything we can to make sure our citizens know what's happening so they can take advantage of every opportunity to let their voices be heard," says Council Chairman Sam Jenkins.

The Council is required to redraw its districts every 10 years based upon U.S. Census information. According to the resolution, the districts must be arranged in a "logical geographic pattern" and be as close to the pattern of districts that existed before any revision.

The ordinance on the proposed amendments can be viewed at www.shreveportla.gov/Council/index.htm.
