Pastor Clyde McNell likes to practice what he preaches.
"This is really showing Thanksgiving in action," said McNell.
McNell and a few other ministers teamed up with Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Plaquemine to give out 100 turkeys to their parishioners. Some of those in attendance said the act goes a long way to help folks in need.
"Some people may not have been able to purchase turkeys and that was the purpose" said Stacey Wilson.
"I can say it all day long but until we put it into action and people actually get the opportunity to see us so it makes a big difference," added McNell.
At New Ark Baptist Church in Baton Rouge giving was the theme as well, as about 100 Thanksgiving meals were served and delivered to people in need around the community.
For those serving meals and giving out turkeys they say it's more than just handing out food, it's about letting people know they care.
"So many people in the world don't have food or place to stay and we just want to welcome them and... maybe they will become a part of our church and just want to give back and open our hearts and let them know we love them no matter what," said Susie Ben of the News Ark Baptist Christian Board.
