Women learn how to protect against an attacker

BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -

The Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office held a women's self defense class Saturday, the class coming just a week after the murder and kid knap ping of 68 year old Rose Coleman in Shreveport.

The free 3 hour class teaches women how to escape an attacker with real life scenarios.

"It helps us if you know how to protect yourself," says Bossier Parish Sheriff's Sgt. Sarah Rhodes.

Rhodes is a self defense specialist, and teaches women escape tactics that can be used on attackers of all sizes.

"They think well I'm only 130 pounds, and the guy could be 200 pounds, there is no way I am going to be able to defend myself, that's false," says Rhodes.

The Sheriff's Office plans on offering more self defense classes, and may include classes for younger girls.

Though this class was free, participants were asked to bring canned goods that will be donated to the Operation Blessing Food Closet.
