La Tech blows past UALR for first win of the season

RUSTON, LA - The Louisiana Tech men's basketball team picked up their first victory of the season with a 70-52 win over Arkansas-Little Rock Wednesday night in the Thomas Assembly Center.

The Bulldogs bolted out the gate with a 23-6 run to start the game powered by Cordarius Johnson's 10 points over that stretch. UALR got as close as eight points with four minutes remaining in the first half, but would never get closer as Tech led at the half by 12.

Kenneth Smith was one steal shy of the school record, as he finished the game with six steals. Smith also led the Bulldogs in rebounds with seven and assists with five. Leading Tech in scoring was Johnson who led all scorers with 17 points.

Leading the scoring for the Trojans was Ben Dillard who scored 11 on the night. Also providing a spark for UALR was Taggart Lockhart who scored 10 points while grabbing eight rebounds.

LA Tech returns to action at 4 p.m. Sunday in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic when they travel to Chattanooga, Tennessee to take on Troy.
