CADDO PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

Caddo Parish Sheriff's Deputies have captured a fugitive they say stole a truck last week and fled from a Caddo deputy Monday afternoon, leaving behind a female companion who was caught and arrested.

Authorities say Jason East, 29, of Stonewall, was caught Monday night after receiving a call from an elderly woman in the 400 block of Debroeck Road who said a man was at her back door.

According to deputies, the woman called at 9:27 p.m. Deputies were still in the area from a search earlier today and responded immediately. East was taken into custody without incident at 9:30 p.m.

Earlier during the search, DeSoto Parish Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle said his department used a K9 unit and their new helicopter to join in the search.

East was wanted on a warrant out of Natchitoches for auto theft, and later flight from an officer and resisting arrest out of Caddo Parish.

It all started Monday afternoon, when the owner of a stolen truck spotted it on I49. The truck was stolen last week in Natchitoches. The owner told deputies he followed his truck to an area near Wallace Lake Road, but lost sight of the vehicle.

A Caddo K9 deputy spotted the truck headed northbound on Wallace Lake Road, but the driver fled, turning into the Hidden Trace subdivision. That's where he abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

Deputies searched the area for about an hour, but did not find the driver. They did arrest a female who was with the suspect in the truck at the time. Tracy Thornton, 29, has been booked into the Caddo Correctional Center on a charge of illegal possession of stolen things.
