The weather system that brought high winds, thunderstorm and tornado warnings to the ArkLaTex also created enough of a disturbance to cause State Fair of Louisiana officials to close the fair early.
Fair General Manager Chris Giordano tells KSLA News 12 that they closed the fair at 6 p.m. rather than continue with the fair until its 11 p.m. closing time. Sunday is the last day of the fair.
Giordano says that high winds and rains were disturbing tents and other items at the State Fairgrounds and that fair operations were closed as a precaution.
The weather system prompted a number of storm warnings as it passed through the ArkLaTex Sunday evening. Calls to area law enforcement agencies revealed very little damage other than a few downed trees and some power lines.
As of 8:15 p.m., SWEPCO reports power outages in these areas: Caddo, 502; Bossier, 218; DeSoto, 3,593; Bienville, 184; Hempstead County, Arkansas, 183; Gregg County, Texas, 533.
