Regardless over of its 2-7 record coming into the game, the Albany High football team hit the ground running in its final regular season game against Westover at Hugh Mills Stadium. The Patriots had already locked up a playoff spot so it was all about pride on Saturday night in what was a 20-7 win for the Patriots.
The Albany High defense began the game with three straight stops but a blocked punt in the second quarter put Westover in the red zone with a fresh set of downs. Dalviness Greene made Albany pay with 13 yard run up the middle to give Westover a 6-0 lead. The extra point was missed.
Albany responded with a long drive including two crucial three down conversions thanks to quarterback Emmanuel Byrd. Byrd capped off the drive a beautiful over the shoulder pass to Andrico Carter in the end zone for the touchdown. The Indians took a 7-6 into halftime.
Westover dominated the 4th quarter with 14 unanswered points in the 20-7 win. Albany finishes the regular season with a 2-8 record. Westover gears up for its first round home playoff match up against Jonesboro.
