CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -
Chatham County has elected a new county commission chairman. In a volatile campaign season, Al Scott and Eddie DeLoach ran a clean, practically attack free race. It was a close one but Scott claimed victory. He is ready to get started even though the results are not official yet.
"I will start by saying thank you for electing me incoming chairman. I am going to spend the next few weeks getting to know the commissioners and the county staff," said Scott.
Scott says he already has a long history and friendship with county administrator Russ Abolt and wants to tackle a few major issues when he takes office. One of those major issues is funding the new county jail, which he says the county has not budgeted for in terms of new employees to work in. It is a concern his opponent DeLoach shared with him. DeLoach, gracious in defeat, thanked his supporters and wished Scott success.
"I want to thank Al. It was a great race. I thought we both ran a great race and had great people working for us. I wish him well. If he ever needs help, he can give me a call," said DeLoach.
