Explosive device discovered in Texarkana

TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) -

A military bomb squad has recovered what it believes to be an explosive device in Texarkana.

Steve Shelley with the Texarkana, Texas Police Department confirms the device was found near Gander Mountain between Texarkana and Nash.

Shelley says they received a call around Noon from the Bowie County Sheriff's Office requesting assistance in finding what they believed to be an explosive device that had been thrown out in Texarkana off the I-30 access road.

Once authorities found the device, they roped off the area, and a USAF Explosive Ordinance Device team from Barksdale Air Force Base was called in. The bomb squad took the device with them.

The team is now working to confirm whether it is, in fact, explosive and will disable it if that's the case.

Shelley says a person possibly responsible for the device is being questioned at the Red River Army Depot, where he works.
