La. voters on both sides lament political divide

Associated Press

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Turnout has been brisk across Louisiana as voters decide the presidential race, a half-dozen seats in the U.S. House and proposed amendments to the state constitution.

Secretary of State spokeswoman Med Casper said Tuesday that there had been reports of occasional, routine problems with machines and long lines, but no major problems.

The secretary of state's office had projected as much as 70% of registered voters might turn out in Louisiana.

The state is expected to go for President Barack Obama's Republican challenger, Mitt Romney. The state has been solidly Republican in recent presidential cycles.

Many voters on both sides lamented what they described as a lack of cooperation by leaders to solve the nation's problems.
