JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Gov. Phil Bryant spent part of Election Day casting his ballot at a precinct in Brandon. Bryant showed up to vote with his son Patrick, greeting poll workers and shaking hands before casting his ballot.

Bryant says he feels good about the Republican ticket in Mississippi and hopes that transitions into the presidential race as well.

When signing in Bryant voluntarily showed poll workers his ID. Bryant was criticized for suggesting folks across the state do the same since there's no voter identification law in place.

It's a criticism Bryant calls ridiculous.

"I think it'll be a good test for us and we'll be able to see how it works," said Bryant. "If it's delaying any of the process, if anyone feels uncomfortable doing it. This is a good opportunity for us to test that system and see how it works."

The state can't implement voter ID until it's approved by the US Justice Department. Bryant says once it's in place, the state will be better off.
