KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

The man who punched a Kansas City Area Transportation Authority bus driver in the face last Friday will be in court Thursday.

Police said Walter Randle was arrested shortly after video was released of the attack. He is due in court on charges of inflicting bodily injury on a person.

The assault took place about 5 p.m. at a stop at 39th and Main streets that was crowded with people trying to get on and off.

Surveillance video shows the man begin to exit the bus, but then turn around and exchange words with the driver. Officials said it all started over a bus ticket another passenger purchased. The other passenger paid cash for a bus ticket and had received a transfer ticket to later get onto a connecting bus. The other passenger didn't need their transfer ticket so the suspect asked for it. Then the bus driver told the suspect he wasn't entitled to the transfer ticket and refused to give it to him, leading to the war of words.

The suspect exits the bus, but then shoves his way back on past exiting riders and again yells at the bus driver.

According to the video, it appears as though the suspect motions for the bus driver to get off the bus with him, but the driver refuses. The man gets off the bus and back on twice before punching the driver in the mouth and jumping off the bus again.

Cindy Baker with Kansas City's ATA said, unfortunately, you never know who is getting on a bus.

"You don't, you know. It's called public transportation because it's public and we welcome everyone aboard," she said. "However, when these kind of situations happen, that person will not only be caught by police and prosecuted, but also won't be on any metro buses anytime soon."

The bus driver suffered minor injuries and is expected to be OK.

This comes about a month after a teen was caught on tape sucker punching an ATA bus driver, leaving him unconscious.

The Jackson County Prosecutor's Office charged the teen with a felony assault with intent to commit bus hijacking. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of third-degree assault.
