SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A Shreveport man today entered a guilty plea to attempted first degree murder rather than stand trial before a Caddo Parish jury.

26-year-old Jasmond Osborne pled guilty to firing a shot which struck the protective vest of a member of the SPD Special Response Team (SWAT) as they enforced a search warrant in January of this year at a motel in the 4900 block of Greenwood Rd.

Police had been investigating drug activity at the Plantation Inn at the time.

Jurors had already been selected and opening statements were scheduled to begin when Osborne entered the guilty plea to Caddo District Court Judge Scott Crichton. Judge Crichton set Osborne's sentencing date on Dec. 3. He faces 20 to 50 years in prison at hard labor.

Caddo Parish ADA Dhu Thompson prosecuted the case.
