Brian Crawford, Assistant Administrative Officer, has been named Fire Chief for Plano, Texas, winning the job over two other finalists.
Crawford has worked in Shreveport for 28 years, starting as a firefighter and working his way up to Fire Chief, before being promoted to Assistant Chief Administrative Officer in February 2011. As Fire Chief, he was responsible for 22 fire stations and more than 600 personnel.
Crawford holds a Bachelor's degree in Organizational Management and a Masters in Organizational Psychology and is a graduate of the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer program as well as the Harvard University Senior Executives in State and Local Government Program.
"I am honored and humbled at being selected the City of Plano's next Fire Chief,'' Crawford said. "Like Shreveport, this a great community with a great fire service history and I look forward to working with the members of Plano Fire Rescue and the City's Executive Management Team in adding to their already high level of public safety service delivery and quality of life for the citizens.''
"I am certainly happy for Brian and his family because this is an outstanding opportunity for him,'' Mayor Cedric Glover said. "Brian has been a remarkable public servant for the City of Shreveport and the dedication, skill and commitment to excellence he's demonstrated throughout his career leaves an indelible mark that will remain long after he's gone.''
Crawford begins his new position in Plano Dec. 3.
"As I move to the City of Plano and this latest chapter in my public service career as their Fire Chief, I want to thank Mayor Glover and CAO Dale Sibley for having the confidence and giving me the opportunity to play a leadership role in the course and direction of our city during this administration, the brave members of the Shreveport Fire Department (past and present) for being my first fire service family, and finally to the citizens of this great community, thank you for allowing me the honor and privilege of serving you for the last 28 years,'' Crawford said.
