We are checking behind the kitchen doors of area school cafeterias to make sure the food our children are being served in their school cafeterias is safe to eat. We have a heaping helping of violations to serve up from Caddo Parish high schools this morning. Out of the 12 high schools in Caddo Parish, only 1 made the cut.
Fair Park High is the only high school in Caddo Parish that cooked up zero violations. Health inspectors were not impressed with any other high school in Caddo Parish.
Caddo Career Center had 1 critical violation and 2 non-critical violations. Their critical violation was: raw meat was not stored separately from ready to eat foods or was placed above ready to eat foods. This poses the risk for cross contamination and is an imminent health threat that could make a student sick. Cross contamination, in some cases, can cause food poisoning. Their 2 non-critical violations were that garbage cans outside were not kept closed and there were unnecessary items on the premises.
Byrd High School grilled up 3 non-critical violations. Surfaces that do not touch foods were not made of a corrosion-resistant, non-absorbent, smooth material, there were unnecessary items in the kitchen, and the lighting in the walk in refrigerator and storage areas was not bright enough.
Inspectors turned up the heat on Booker T Washington High and Caddo Magnet High School. They both had the same 2 non critical violations. Surfaces that do not directly touch foods were not made of a corrosion-resistant, non-absorbent, smooth material, and there were unnecessary items in and around the kitchen.
Captain Shreve High School had 1 non-critical violation: they also had unnecessary items in their kitchen. North Caddo High School had 1 non-critical violation: there were openings in the kitchen that insects or rodents could use to get inside. Northwood High School had 1 non-critical violation: light bulbs in areas with exposed foods or food contact surfaces were not covered. Southwood High School had 1 non-critical violation: equipment that does not directly touch foods was not in good condition.
Green Oaks Senior High School had 2 non-critical violations. Their plumbing was not maintained and the walls/ ceilings or the attached equipment was not clean. Woodlawn High School had 2 non-critical violations as well. The walls/ceiling or the attached equipment was not in good condition. It was also not clean. Huntington High School had 2 non-critical violations. Equipment that does not directly touch food was not in good shape and the outside garbage area had trash and litter around it and was not clean.
