Longview Police have arrested a man wanted in connection with the aggravated assault of a Wiley College student.
Kevin Dewayne Whaley, 32, was wanted in connection with a fight that occurred on September 23. Police say they were called about 2 p.m. to a fight in progress at Strickland dormitory.
Police and emergency personnel found the victim with multiple injuries.
A day after the September 23 fight, college officials called an assembly to answer student questions about the on-campus attack and threats.
School leaders explained then that a group of Wiley students got into a fight with a group of non-students at an off-campus party over the weekend. School administrators think one or more of the people involved in that fight went to the college campus the next day and attacked another student who was not involved in the off campus fight.
"He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time from someone who was looking to injure any student who was from Wiley," said Dr. Joseph Morale, Vice President of Student Affairs.
Whaley is currently being held in the Gregg County Jail on an outstanding warrant for aggravated assault. He will go in front of a judge for an arraignment hearing and transfer to the Harrison County Jail.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
