The people of Mansfield are thinking pink.
In the restaurants, the pharmacies, the nursing homes and anywhere else you can imagine, the power of pink is on display.
DeSoto Parish Fire Department officials are showing their support for the women in their lives by wearing pink. Their effort is in support of breast cancer awareness.
But they aren't just wearing them; they also are selling them.
"We started selling them around town, and it was a big hit. Every place we went to in Mansfield, everyone wanted to buy our shirt," one firefighter says.
It's a shirt that everyone wants to get their hands on. It's fashionable, functional, and for a good cause.
And it's much more than a passing fad.
"The fire stations have gotten maybe 500 calls this week of people wanting to buy shirts," says Kassi Tyler, firefighter.
"All the money we raise today stays in DeSoto Parish, and we donate it to the Billy Ray Betsel Memorial Center. It stays in DeSoto Hospital and helps out the people who are getting treatment here for cancer."
The grand total, about $6,000, will be used to help promote breast cancer awareness in Mansfield.
And no one understands the importance of awareness quite like cancer survivors themselves.
"It touches our heart a lot. It means a lot," Tyler says.
"There's still a few T-shirts left. And there's nothing quite like supporting a good cause."
