CADDO PARISH, LA (KSLA) -
Caddo sheriff's deputies are working a crash involving a pickup and a dump truck that collided on US Hwy. 71 near Hwy. 173 on Friday morning.
The accident occurred at 9:14 a.m. and sent the driver of the dump truck to LSU Health Sciences Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup, 29-year-old Mhonda Tanner of Blanchard, was not injured.
Deputies said Tanner told them she was on Hwy. 173 and stopped at a stop sign to check for traffic. When she pulled out, she was struck by the northbound dump truck, which had the right-of-way. The driver of the dump truck lost control of his vehicle, crossed the center line, and ran into a patch of trees. He was ejected from his vehicle. Authorities have not yet released his name, but said he is 34 and from Dallas.
Deputies said the bed of the dump truck was empty but a small amount of debris and diesel spilled on the roadway.
The Caddo Sheriff's Office Traffic Safety Unit, assisted by the Patrol Division, is investigating the crash.
