Cafeteria Report Card: Webster Parish

Posted: Updated:
WEBSTER PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

Monday morning in the Ark-La- Tex means it's time to grill some area cafeterias. We had a flood of requests for several of the schools in Webster Parish. That's where this week's Cafeteria Report Card is aimed. There is some good and bad news. One school on the list fired up 10 health code violations, but we'll start with the good news.

Central School was one school our viewers specifically asked us to look into. They cooked up zero violations. Shongaloo School tops our list as well. Springhill School wraps up the schools with perfect scores.

Health inspectors turned up the heat on Sarepta School. The number of violations here spiked to 2 critical and 8 non-critical. We'll start with their critical violations. Materials that are used to touch foods or food contact surfaces allowed the migration of harmful substances. This could be an example of cross contamination. It is a critical violation because it could directly make a student sick. Their other critical violation is that they did not have a sufficient amount of hot water in their kitchen.

There were also 8 non-critical violations at Sarepta School. Equipment that does not touch food was not in good repair. Single use or single serve items were stored in an area open to splashes, dust, or contamination, and they were not stored at least 6 inches above the floor. Their plumbing was not maintained. The floors at Sarepta were not smooth and easily cleanable or of a maintained level or in good repair. The walls and/or ceiling in the food prep areas were not constructed of smooth, light colored, durable, and easily cleanable materials. And the walls or ceilings or attached equipment was not clean.

3 of the schools had one non-critical violation. Brown Middle School had one non-critical violation: their plumbing was not maintained. Cotton Valley School's one non-critical violation was that they did not have the correct number of ventilation hood systems. Doyline High School's non-critical violation was that the walls or ceiling or the attached equipment was not in good repair. Browning Elementary School ticks the number of non-critical violations up to 2. They had plumbing that was not maintained, and their wet wiping cloths were not laundered before bring used with a fresh solution of cleaner.
