Oct. 15th: KSLA News 12 Friendship House Editorial

There was a special dedication ceremony in Shreveport this past week.

A brand new Friendship House is complete and ready to help turn a distressed neighborhood around. It's located in the Queensborough neighborhood. It's much like a community center reaching at-risk children and families with after school programs and community service projects. It's a safe haven in often dangerous communities.

Community Renewal International created the Friendship House idea. There are now ten in our area.

Funding for the Friendship House was made possible through the KSLA News 12 House for Hope. That's a fundraiser we do every year with the Homebuilders Association of Northwest Louisiana.

The homebuilders build the house and we help to give it away. Thousands of you have purchased tickets over the past four years for a chance to win the House for Hope.

I just wanted you to see what your money is being used for. A new Friendship House.

I'm James Smith.

I hope we are all teaching our kids to be respectful of others, to hold doors open, to say please, thank you, yes ma'am and yes sir. We don't need to expect anything in return, just be proud that you were brought up right.I hope we are all teaching our kids to be respectful of others, to hold doors open, to say please, thank you, yes ma'am and yes sir. We don't need to expect anything in return, just be proud that you were brought up right.

There may be no clear right way or a wrong way to handle a school shooting. At least in Maryland, where an armed school resource officer did his job, is an example of a better way, says Joe Sciortino, vice president and general manager of KSLA News 12.There may be no clear right way or a wrong way to handle a school shooting. Once again, we have a school shooting. This time, in Maryland, an armed school resource officer did his job. He jumped into action and engaged the shooter, who died at the scene. ... I would hope the number of armed school officers is growing.
