HARRISON CO., TX (KSLA) -
The remains of the four people on board a plane from East Texas that crashed in Wyoming have been recovered from the wreckage.
Albany County Undersheriff Rob DeBree says crews completed the removal of the bodies from the wreckage site on Laramie Peak around 3 p.m. Mountain Time.
DeBree confirms the fatalities as 52-year-old Charles Ford of Marshall, TX; 21-year-old Maverick Cayce of Longview, TX; 65-year-old Billy Gee of Karnack, TX and 29-year-old James Morgan of Marshall, TX.
The four bodies are being taken to the Albany County Coroner's Office where autopsies will be performed over the next couple of days.
The 2005 Piper-PA-32, owned by Ford, left the Harrison County Airport Tuesday morning en route to Casper, Wyoming. The plane was last seen in Dodge City, Kansas, where it had stopped to refuel.
The plane's disappearance prompted a search Tuesday night that continued Wednesday and into Thursday.
The wreckage was spotted Thursday evening at 7:02 p.m. CDT sitting on a rocky ledge on the south face of Wyoming's Laramie Peak, which is about 9,800 feet above sea level.
A recovery helicopter was used to lower crews down into the wreckage site.
Both the FAA and the NTSB are investigating. The NTSB is the lead investigative agency.
Family, friends, and community members of the plane's passengers gathered for a prayer vigil Thursday around the same time search crews were narrowing in on the downed aircraft.
More than a hundred people gathered at the Telegraph park in downtown Marshall to give support to the loved ones of the men lost in the crash.
"Everybody out here is supporting, it means a lot and I'm sure that it means a lot to the family," says Bryan Sutton, a friend of James Morgan.
The search crew was led by Albany County Sheriff's Office members, who were aided by U.S. Air Force aircraft, DeBree says.
