BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
The man police say called in last month's LSU bomb threat, 42-year-old William Bouvay, has pleaded not guilty to federal charges stemming from the incident.
Bouvay also faces a similar charge in district court. His federal trial is set for December.
In the meantime, Bouvay is locked up at the West Baton Rouge Parish Prison without bond.
East Baton Rouge parish district attorney
Hillar Moore says Bouvay can theoretically be tried and convicted in both state
and federal charges.
"He committed a serious state
offense, he needs to be punished in state court. I have no idea what's going to
happen in federal court. I have no control over that. It's a possibility that
they refer him to state court," says Moore.
Moore says he will sit down with federal prosecutors and they will decide a game plan for prosecution. Any time Bouvay serves now will be credited for time served. He faces up to 40 years in state prison if he's convicted. His next court date is December 10th for motions hearing.
