Voters registering in record numbers in Caddo Parish

CADDO PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

A record number of voters have registered to cast their ballots in Caddo Parish.

"We're real close to 167,000. Right now we're at 166,995, that's the highest we've ever been in Caddo, says Caddo Registrar of Voters Ernie Roberson. "And we've seen a pretty good increase this month, about a thousand up this month."

One number both the Obama and Romney camps will surely be targeting ahead of the November 6 election is the rising count of voters who identify themselves as Independents.

"We've got about 83,000 Democrats, almost 46,000 Republicans and about 37,000 that are 'no party,' or other party. Independents, people who join parties like Green, Reform or 'other'. So, it's quite a variance. The group that's shown the greatest increase has been the 'no parties'," says Roberson.

Tuesday, October 9 is the last day to register to vote.

The Registrar of Voters is open in Caddo Parish Monday and Tuesday at 525 Marshall Street, across from the Caddo Parish Courthouse. They're open until 4:30 p.m. Click here for more information on registration, early voting and election day.
