Centenary students help clean up after playground arson

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A group of Centenary students helped clean up the charred remains of a church playground set Thursday, after officials say someone burned it down late Monday night.

The group of student volunteers and Centenary staff members were at First Baptist Church School in Shreveport bright and early to help scoop up the blackened parts of the play area and dispose of them.

"This helped us in that it got rid of all of the bad memories that were here after seeing it burned," says James Gillespie, head of First Baptist Church School.

Gillespie say the children have been drawing designs for what they'd like to see for replacements and new additions to the playground.

No arrests have been made in connection with the arson. Fire officials say the investigation continues.
