The Red River that winds its way through Shreveport and Bossier City is one of the best assets we have.
Not every community has such a waterway. And both sides of the river have taken advantage of it. In Bossier City, the boardwalk overlooks the river. On the Shreveport side, the Riverview Park is a great venue for outdoor events.
And of course, the riverboat gambling boats wouldn't be here if not for the Red River.
That's why it's so important for the river to be clean…and to stay that way.
In just a few weeks, the annual Red River Clean Up day will take place. Last year, almost 200 volunteers showed up to pick up trash in the water between Twelve Mile Bayou to the Jimmy Davis Bridge. Over 40 yards of trash was taken out of the river.
What's the most common trash? Beer cans, beer bottles and styrofoam cups.
Volunteers are needed again this year. If you would like to pitch in and do your part contact lisa@redrivercleanup.com or call 318-423-1690 for more information.
