Mayor Glover in hospital after fall

Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover slipped and fell on a curb Wednesday morning while visiting Oak Park Elementary. He has been admitted to Christus Schumpert Health.

A preliminary examination indicates that Glover injured his quadriceps or thigh muscles. An MRI is scheduled for Thursday to determine the extent of the damage, allowing his doctors to further determine whether surgery is needed.

According to a release from the mayor's office, Glover is not expected to be incapacitated for any extended period and will likely conduct his duties electronically and by telephone. He will likely remain at Christus Shumpert Medical Center for the next several days.

Glover was visiting Oak Park, one of the city's two Blue Ribbon schools, to meet with faculty, teachers, and students when he slipped on a curb around 10 a.m.

Just hours after the accident, Glover participated via conference call in a special City Council meeting to set a December election to renew a sales tax designated for fire and police services. That measure was approved by the Council.

If Glover is not immediately available to perform his duties, Councilman Sam Jenkins, mayor pro tem, would step into that role.
