Domestic violence is an epidemic in our community. In one recent week, Shreveport police responded to 32 domestic violence calls.

Caddo Parish Shreveport ranks at the top of the list in the state for the number of domestic violence related homicides. Chances are you know someone who is currently experiencing or has experienced domestic violence.

What can you do to help end violence against women?

The best thing for you to do if you suspect domestic violence is call the confidential and anonymous, 24 hour providence house crisis line at 318-226-5015 and report what you've seen, heard, or suspect.

We will report the incident to the police.

If you are experiencing domestic violence, you do not have to continue living in fear. If you do not have access to a phone, you can go to a fire station to find safe shelter. The fire department will provide emergency treatment for you and will transport you to a safe place.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. Let's all do our part to stop the violence.

I'm Simone Hennessee with Providence House.
