SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -

The Shreveport-Bossier area is now the local base for a group of mothers tasked with making sure their children grow up to be successful in life.

They're called the Red River Chapter of The Jack and Jill of America Organization. On Sunday, decades after the original group was dissolved, these parents and role models held their installation brunch.

They say Jack and Jill's goal is to improve the educational, cultural, civic, recreational, and social development of their children.

"We are here to live, to work, to play, to be together. We're here to nurture African-American children to help them become successful adults, contributing adults to society," says Wanda Thomas.

In July, the Red River Mother's Interest Club traveled to Philadelphia to receive a provisional chapter status.

The chapter was officially accepted into the national organization on Sunday.
