SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Shreveport Police say months of intense investigation went into collecting enough evidence to get murder warrant for a man they suspected all along was connected to a homicide in February.

Police want to arrest Kevin Smith, 31, of Shreveport, on a warrant charging him with one count of second-degree murder.

Police already know where Smith is: He currently is serving time at the Bossier Maximum Security Facility on unrelated charges.

The new charge comes in connection with the February 19 murder of Anthony Crain, 24, of Shreveport. Crain was found shot to death in the 2400 block of Holly Street in the Highland neighborhood.

Authorities say they developed Smith early on as a suspect, but it took months for them to gather and secure enough evidence to link Smith to Crain's murder.

Smith's warrant has a bond amount of $1 million.
