Bossier Sheriff's deputies arrested a Haughton man late Wednesday after a nearly two-hour standoff at his residence in Dogwood, where they say he intended to blow up his house in the residential neighborhood.
Deputies arrived at the house shortly before 5 p.m. after being called by a neighbor who told them that the man who lived in the 2600 block of Southcrest Drive had turned on the gas inside his house and was going to blow it up.
Deputies immediately began evacuating about two dozen houses in the area as a safety precaution. Then they called the man to begin negotiations.
They say the man "would talk for a while, get upset, and repeatedly hang up on negotiators."
About 15 minutes after deputies cut off the gas to the house, the man walked into the backyard, and he was quickly arrested.
Joseph Drozd, 59, was arrested in connection with the incident. He has pending charges of terrorizing, aggravated battery and resisting arrest by force.
