Sept. 26th: KSLA News 12 Prostate Cancer Editorial

Okay men, listen up. It's time to talk about prostate cancer and your health.

Other than skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. If it's caught in its early stage, much can be done.

The problem is way too many men don't get screened for prostate cancer. When they find out they have it...it's too late. For most men, you should get screened once a year if you are over age 50. Those at higher risk should get screened starting at age 45.

High risk includes African American men and men with a family history of prostate cancer.

The screening is a simple one consisting of a blood test and a physical exam. Now is the time to get it scheduled while you are thinking about it.

And, most family health decisions are made by the woman in the household, so ladies urge your sons, husbands and friends to take the test.

I'm James Smith.

State Police Supt. Col. Mike Edmonson needs to address this inexcusable behavior directly and restore the public's confidence. He should be fully transparent in his investigation into the matter and should invite an outside entity to look into the matter.

Be on the lookout for kids. They seem to dart out from everywhere. They are certainly not looking out for you; so please look out for them.
