SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A day after Shreveport Police arrest a fugitive on two counts of attempted first-degree murder, his girlfriend's family spoke with KSLA News 12.

Jimmie Durden surrendered Monday afternoon after barricading himself and his girlfriend, Sameka Morris, in a house on Moray Street as police tried to serve a warrant for his arrest.

Now Morris is charged as an accessory, and her family says her daughter is innocent.

"I really don't think she deserves to be in jail. The reason why she was doing what she was doing and being being with her baby daddy is because she loved him," Morris' mother says.

"She's not only got one child by him but another inside her stomach that's going to be here in a couple of months, which they made a joke about she'd be having in jail."

"Did she know that Jimmie was on the run? How long was she with Jimmie inside that house? She couldn't have been in there too long," the mother says.
