SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Two people were arrested Tuesday in connection with a fraudulent land transfer involving property belonging to a woman who has been dead for 17 years.

Eugene Boyd, 36, was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center on one charge of forgery and one charge of theft after $750 was taken to lease the land for farming though the seller did not legally own the property.

Caddo Sheriff's deputies say the forgery charge stems from a man signing a dead woman's name to an act of donation, giving the man ownership of 20 acres of land in Belcher.

The paperwork was filed with the Caddo Parish Clerk of Court and was used to gain possession of the land, valued at $30,000.

Deputies say the donation paperwork was created without the presence of the legal owner by a woman who forged two witness signatures on the document, and then notarized the paperwork to make it appear authentic.

The woman received $100 from the man to prepare and notarize the paperwork.

The woman arrested in connection with the incident, Cecilia Conant, was charged with one count of forgery. Conant, who was employed by the Caddo Sheriff's Office, was immediately fired.

Deputies say Conant was not acting as an employee of the sheriff's office when the incident occurred.
