Shooting follows fire at Texarkana apartment complex

Authorities are investigating a fire and a shooting at the same apartment complex on the eastern side of the city Tuesday morning.

No one was injured in the fire, but one man has been taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound. His condition is not known at this time.

The two incidents are not believed to be connected.

Eight units in one of the buildings at the Smith Keys apartment complex were heavily damaged when a fire broke out around 9:00 a.m.

Firefighters believe some children, ages 3 and 4-year-old, got hold of a cigarette lighter and possibly set a baby doll's hair on fire and tried to hide it.

Just as firefighters were wrapping up their duties at the fire, they received the call about the shooting just a few buildings away in the same complex.

Police are still on the scene investigating the shooting. No arrests have been made.
