Sept. 24th: KSLA News 12 Bomb threat-quick justice editorial

Last week, a bomb threat at LSU in Baton Rouge caused the evacuation of the entire campus.

Thousands of students and faculty were displaced while police went through all the buildings looking for explosives. None were found. The same thing happened at the University of Texas. And that's what usually happens with bomb threats. An anonymous caller says there is a bomb and then authorities have to take action. Most of the time no bomb is found…but you can't take any chances.

Quite often at the start of a school year…it happens on a local basis…when bomb threats are called into high schools. It's happened in the ArkLaTex and arrests were made.

In these times of terrorist threats these bomb threats must be taken seriously and for those arrested and convicted. There should be no leniency.

I'm James Smith.

State Police Supt. Col. Mike Edmonson needs to address this inexcusable behavior directly and restore the public's confidence. He should be fully transparent in his investigation into the matter and should invite an outside entity to look into the matter.
