SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A Shreveport man is behind bars, accused of firing several shots outside a downtown nightclub early Saturday morning.

Police say they were called around 3:18 a.m. to a report of shots being fired outside the nightclub in the 600 block of Commerce Street.

Witnesses told police that a man had just been denied entry into the club and was asked to leave by security officials there. The man, later identified as 30-year-old Eddie Jefferson, reportedly attempted to get into a physical confrontation with the security guards before finally being made to leave.

Upon leaving the club, police say Jefferson went to his car, got a handgun and began shooting multiple rounds into the air before driving off in a blue Ford Expedition. No one was injured.

Officers pulled him over on Clyde Fant Parkway near Stoner Avenue a short time later and took him into custody. While investigating the traffic stop, officers found a .357 handgun discarded along the side of the roadway on Clyde Fant. Police say they have reason to believe the gun was used in the shooting.

Jefferson was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on a charge of illegal use of a weapon.
