SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Operation T.B.O.N.E. stands for "Taking Back Our Neighborhood Every day. More than 50 people from city departments hit the streets in Shreveport's MLK area Wednesday.  It's called Operation T.B.O.N.E. Their mission is to work towards a cleaner and safer city. "It gives them a sense of pride to know that the city is concerned about where they live, the city is concerned about cleanliness, the environment, and the economy. It allows for the citizen to actually feel pride in where they live" Dorothy Farnell, the Interim Director for Property Standards, says.

The T.B.O.N.E. teams are citing people whose homes are not meeting property standards in the hope that a cleaner neighborhood will lead to less crime. "I'm writing up a violation for an inoperable vehicle, as you can see the grass has grown up under it, the tires are flat, and so I'm going to sticker it. He'll have 10 days to call to let them know if it's operable or not" Denise Jackson, with Property Standards, says.

"The owner of the property is responsible for any violations that's on his property and if its trash and debris and it's an occupied structure we will cite them to court, if it's a vacant lot or house then we'll send them a notification" Farnell says. Street by street the team cited some MLK residents for trash, some for inoperable vehicles, and some for both.

If residents in that area want to avoid citations, there are dumpsters for residents to throw away trash and tires on the corner of Martin Luther King and David Raines. Operation T.B.O.N.E. will be out again in October.
