SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A masked black man wearing a purple jogging suit and white tennis shoes walked into a convenience store Monday evening, and, after getting the money he demanded, shot the store owner anyway, Shreveport Police revealed a day later.

Not only did the robber use his firearm, police say evidence at the scene suggests that the store's owner may have returned fire.

Syeb Jaffri, 48, of Bossier City, is in fair condition at LSU Health. Jaffri, owner of the Expressway Grocery store at 2309 Alabama Ave., was shot at least once in the upper body.

The robbery and shooting began shortly after 6 p.m. That's when police say the masked gunman walked into the store and demanded money.

After getting an undisclosed amount of cash, the robber fired shots at Jaffri. The robber then left the store on foot in an unknown direction.

Police say the robber stands about six feet tall and has a medium build.

Anyone with information about the crime should call Shreveport Detectives at 318-673-6955 or Shreveport-Caddo Parish Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373.
