SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -
The wife of GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney has arrived in Shreveport for a GOP fundraising event.
Ann Romney arrived shortly after 11 a.m. at the Shreveport Downtown Airport Wednesday morning from Dallas to attend a private fundraising event at the Shreveport Club.
Caddo Parish Republican Party Vice Chairman, Harold Coates was part of the local entourage that accompanied Romney, and was asked if she had addressed Mitt Romney's off-the-cuff comment that 47 percent of Americans who don't pay taxes are dependent on the government.
"I'm sure she has, as he has on TV, they've been pounding it, but that's not the important issue, that's a diversion, the important issue is how can Mitt Romney help the economy," said Coates.
Press Secretary Sarah Haley says Mrs. Romney is a big part of Governor Romney's campaign because "she has the ability to relate to so many people out there. She's endured multiple sclerosis and breast cancer and a lot of health issues."
Wednesday's event in Shreveport will be closed to the media.
