Suspect in South Louisiana bank robbery sought in Shreveport

OPELOUSAS, LA (KSLA) -

Police say the suspect in a South Louisiana bank robbery may be in the Shreveport area.

It happened at the Whitney Bank at the I-49 Service Rd. near Creswell Lane in Opelousas on Friday, September 14. Police there say a man walked in around 2:50 p.m. and asked about opening a bank account and then left. The same man returned around 5:15 p.m., handed the teller a note stating that this was a robbery and that he had a gun.

After being handed the cash, the man turned and walked calmly out of the bank. Opelousas police say the man got away with about $4,000. They are asking for any information that will help identify him, and they are hoping that the images captured on the bank's surveillance cameras will help.

Investigators believe the man may have connections in Shreveport and may be in the area.

Anyone with information should contact the Opelousas Police Department at (337) 948-2500 or St. Landry Crime Stoppers at (337) 948-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest.
